VPS first steps

After purchase

1. You'll receive an email with:
   • IP address
   • Root password
   • SSH port (usually 22)

First login

ssh root@your-ip-address

Immediate tasks

1. Change password

   passwd
   

2. Update system

   apt update && apt upgrade -y
   

3. Create new user

   adduser youruser
   usermod -aG sudo youruser
   

Security

1. Configure firewall
2. Set up SSH key
3. Install Fail2ban
